Steelbacks Study Centre Official Opening

After months of refurbishments and renovations, the new Steelbacks Study Centre was officially opened by former Northants and England star Allan Lamb. Guests included representatives from the cricket club, County Council and local schools, with Year 5 pupils from Barry Road Primary School coming in for the afternoon to make the day a success.

The children had sessions on cricket equipment and use of the senses in cricket poetry. This was aided by other members of staff from the other 4 study centres around Northants. First team players Monty Panesar, Stephen Peters, David Lucas and David Sales were also on hand to talk to the children and listen to their poetry. Finally coaches from the club gave them a coaching session on the green. All guest and children were also lucky enough to watch some of the County’s LVCC match against Gloucester.

In the new centre we have 3 distinct teaching spaces, with an IT classroom with 15 Apple iMac laptops and supported by full AV equipment ,  a classroom for small group work and a breakout area for team building challenges. we also currently have use of the bowling green infront of the building for outdoor activities, games and coaching. In addition to this we have secured funding from the WRG to create a garden area to the side of the centre. This will be planted with a variety of flowers, shrubs and vegetables and will be used as a curriculum resource to teach young people from the local community about the importance of sustainability to our lifestyles.

We would like to thank all the people involved in making the day a great success, with special thanks to Barry Road Primary for helping us out on the day.
